Job Description:

Pacific Oaks College is seeking a Field Work Supervisor to join the School of Human Development and Education.

We encourage applicants who have expertise in teaching linguistically and culturally diverse students in school settings where the curriculum aligns with California’s adopted content standards and in mentoring those new to the educational field. Well-qualified Supervisor candidates must have a current teaching credential or have the equivalent experience in educator preparation.

Field Work Supervisors are a resource for student teacher and intern candidates, and serve as the primary liaison between the School of Human Development and Education and the school site mentor teacher. The Supervisor also observes and evaluates teacher candidates, and offers experienced and objective perspectives on areas such as overall classroom effectiveness, instruction in the classroom, and classroom management. In addition, Supervisors work in concert with teacher candidates to identify specific areas of challenge or interest, providing opportunities for candidates to participate in their own learning and improve, analyze, or reassess their practice. Supervisors are critical to candidate success because they guide candidates to think not only about the “what” or “doing” of teaching, but also the “why” or “thinking” of teaching.

This position is located in Pasadena and/or San Jose, requires frequent travel, and reports directly to the Dean, of the School of Human Development and Education.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide observation, guidance, feedback, and mentoring to our candidates during the student teaching or intern placement.
  • Participate in Student Teaching and Intern Orientations.
  • Work with mentor teachers, the credential analyst, faculty, and the Dean of the School of Human Development and Education to provide support to teacher candidates.
  • Assist as needed with difficulties, concerns, and problems pertaining to student teachers, interns, principals, and mentor teachers.
  • Complete and submit observation feedback forms and other deliverables in a timely manner.
  • Participate in evaluation of candidates and assist mentor teachers in submitting evaluations via TaskStream.

Position Requirements:

  • Previous experience mentoring or supervising students is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of current best practices in education is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Position Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited institution is required.
  • Master’s degree is desirable.
  • At least three years of full-time experience teaching students in a public school setting is preferred.
  • A current credential or equivalent experience in educator preparation.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team.
